The disk image is available here Download OS X Yosemite but if I mount and run it it says cannot install in your computer I need the installer to make a bootable drive like this( bootable installer). I will then run the drive in a separate apfs volume as told by apple here Installing macOS on a separate APFS volume - Apple Support
Using Software Update is faster and easier than upgrading by other methods, and it might require less storage space to download and install the upgrade. Software Update shows only upgrades that are compatible with your Mac.
If the macOS that you want isn't compatible with your Mac or the currently installed macOS, the installer will let you know, and the App Store might prevent you from downloading it. For example, it might dim the Get button, say that the macOS is not compatible with this device, or say that the requested version of macOS is not available.
Apple has released OS X Yosemite, officially versioned as OS X 10.10. The update to Macs is available now as a free download. OS X Yosemite brings a redesigned user interface to the Mac, as well as many new features that intend to improve productivity and interoperability with iOS devices.
Users who wish to create a bootable USB installer for OS X Yosemite will want to do so before completing the installation of Yosemite, or, at least make a copy of the OS X Yosemite Installer, which is found in the /Applications/ folder.
after down loadeding osx yosemite came up saying needed to download java 8 did this but now every time i turn on mac apple logo comes up with loading bar after loading loading all is ok why does it keep having to load
Hi i downloaded yosemite this morning but when it starts installing its says 22 min remaningBut mac it still stuck on white apple logo screen and loading line status bar is kind of stuck in half way from last 4 hour .Dose anybody know how long will it take Has it happend to anyone out there
Exactly the same thing happened to me on my late 2012 iMac, the download seemed to be ok, I went through all the legal steps, the white screen came up and the line status bar got stuck in the middle of the process. I pressed the power button to reset it, but it took me again to the same white screen, with no other option, and the process is again stuck in the middle of the line status bar. I did that 3 times, with the same results.
can anyone give me a direct link to get yosemit without going to apple store plz ! anyone that did already download it and put it somewhere where ppl having trouble with apple store get it without checking applstore
Downloading and using different Mac OS installers is very common for troubleshooting purposes, for IT staff and admins, and for tinkerers. This article will discuss where to download and access installers for macOS Ventura 13, MacOS Monterey 12, macOS Big Sur 11, macOS Catalina, MacOS Mojave, MacOS High Sierra, macOS Sierra, Mac OS X El Capitan, OS X Yosemite, OS X Mavericks, Mac OS X Mountain Lion, Mac OS X Lion, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Leopard, Mac OS X Tiger, and others too.
For earlier versions of Mac OS X, including Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9, Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8, Mac OS X Lion 10.7, Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6, Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, Mac OS X Tiger 10.4, and before, the process to obtain those installers differs a bit.
Another option is to peruse the Apple Vintage Software collection at Archive.org which may have image files of older system restore disks and other older system software, just beware that archive.org is not an official distributor of Apple software so appropriate precautions should be taken and only download from there at your own risk.
I recommend making one for Yosemite, on an external hard drive or USB thumb drive, for many of the same reasons I recommend making a bootable Mavericks installer drive: If you want to install Yosemite on multiple Macs, using a bootable installer drive can be more convenient than downloading or copying the entire installer to each computer. If you want to erase the drive on a Mac before installing Yosemite, or start over at any time, you can use a dedicated installer drive to boot that Mac, erase its drive, and then install the OS clean and restore whatever data you need from a backup. And if your Mac is experiencing problems, a bootable installer drive makes a handy emergency disk.
In this article we will cover how to get old versions of macOS including Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, El Capitan, Sierra, Yosemite and even old versions of Mac OS X. We explain how to get hold of the relevant installer files so that you can install the software on your Mac.
It is also possible to access the Mojave installer via this link to the Mac App Store. Note that as above, for this link to work you need to be running Safari and you need to close the Mac App Store app first. If the Mac App Store app is open this redirect will not work.
You may also encounter issues if you are trying to download an older version of macOS that your Mac cannot support. Usually when Apple introduces a new Mac it will not be able to run the version of macOS that shipped before the one installed on that Mac. The older macOS might not support certain components in that Mac, for example.
However, when Apple introduced Mojave the Mac App Store changed, and these installers can no longer be searched for or found in the purchased section of the store. (Although we do have redirect links in the section above to each of the relevant pages on the Mac App Store.)
If the old version of the OS you are after predates Snow Leopard and you have a developer account you might be able to get it from developer.apple.com/downloads. If you search within the OS X category you should see downloads for all versions of OS X, at least from version 10.3 to 10.6.
It goes without saying that you will need an internet connection to download the software and you may need it while installing the version of macOS if it needs to check for firmware or confirm your iCloud credentials.
Same problem here. I just erased the disk and tried instaling from the recovery partition, and it prompts for my Apple ID & pw. Keeps telling me pw is wrong. I turned off two-factor auth thinking that was the problem, no luck. Changed pw 3 times already and each time the installer tells me pw is wrong!
Apple released the new Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite in the Mac App Store for everyone to download and install for free on October 16th, 2014, but downloading a 5+ GB file for each of your computers will take some serious time. The best thing to do is download it once and create a bootable install USB drive from the file for all of your Macs.
Just make sure that once you have the installation app for Yosemite in your Applications folder, which will be named "Install OS X Yosemite," that you don't install it yet. (Previous versions of the app installer were named "Install OS X 10.10 Developer Preview" and "Install OS X Yosemite Beta.")
Once you install Yosemite, the file will automatically erase itself, so it's important to make a bootable drive first. If you want to install first and then make a bootable drive, make a copy of the installer app in another location so you can access it later. Worst case scenario is downloading the large file again from the Mac App Store, but then why make a bootable drive
By far the easiest way to create a bootable drive is to use the DiskMaker X application, which automates the entire process in the next method. To start out, download the newest version of DiskMaker X from its website. Currently, that's the Yosemite Beta version. (Update: the public Yosemite version is out now, and you can download it from here, here, or here.)
You'll be warned about it being a beta software, but once you get passed that, make sure to select "Use this copy" to use the installer app it found in your Applications folder. If you have more than one installer like I do, you'll want to make sure to do it manually.
Hello!!! I NEED HELP!! I know I'm a few years late but I JUST came into possession of a 2007 macbook (A1181) and I'm upgrading the RAM (to 4GB) and hard drive (to 500 GB). I was hoping to make myself a bootable installer of Yosemite but I cannot manage to find anywhere to download it. That is the only thing hanging up my adventure. I'd be open to any other macOS as long as it can run the newest iTunes. I'm wary of going too high since this laptop is so old and I'm pretty new to doing my own upgrades. THANKS!! :)
However, if you have installers for 10.9 Mavericks, 10.8 Mountain Lion, and 10.7 Lion, TidBITS Talk reader gastropod suggested a workaround for their expired certificates. Before you install, set the clock on the Mac to a date when the certificate was valid, perform the install, and then reset the date back after installation. To change the date from Terminal (which is likely all that will be accessible), follow these steps, which set it to 1 February 2016:
Speaking of Terminal, Armin Briegel has written on his Scripting OS X blog that the softwareupdate command has a new option in Catalina that lets you download the full installer for a specific version of macOS. This seems to work with versions of 10.14 Mojave and 10.13 High Sierra, but nothing older.
Is there a way to see when the signing certificates expire I thought I knew how, but when I use that procedure it shows the Mojave and Catalina installers I just downloaded expiring in April of 2021 (which is better than last Thursday, but still only 1.5 years away.)
When I try to get the High Sierra or Mojave installers, the link takes me to a page where the link only takes me to the app store where those installers do not appear anywhere that I can see. The links for El Capitan, Sierra, and Yosemite got me to a page where I could download a dmg so those seem to work.
As others have noted High Sierra and Mojave are obtained via the App Store. I am still using El Capitan but had older copies of High Sierra and Mojave stored on my computer for future consideration. The App Store wanted to open these copies so I had to trash them before the updated copies would download. 153554b96e
